In 2013, Bosmans started his ongoing series Legends: paintings on wooden panels that bring together the different stories, motifs, and iconography that underlie his work. In this particular polyptych, the hedgehogs depicted refer to Pliny the Elder’s story about the small mammals, in which hedgehogs pierce apples with their quills in order to carry the fruit. The hedgehogs in Bosmans's Legend: Four carry myriad objects that bring together symbols found elsewhere in the exhibition.
